WHAT IS POSTURAL HYPOTENSION?

It can be defined s fall in blood pressure seen when standing from sitting or laying down, standing for long.

HOW IT PRESENTS?

It usually presents in the form of lightheadedness lasting for few seconds to minutes. It is rarely associated with rotatory type of giddiness.
So, the main symptoms are
  1. Lightheadedness, feeling dizzy (when you stand up from sitting)
  2. Weakness
  3. Feeling of fainting
  4. Vomiting sensation
Most common causes of postural hypotension can be dehydration due to diarrhoea, vomiting, reduced water intake, medications or after prolonged bed rest etc
There are many other factors also which lead to postural hypotension, which need to be properly evaluated to treat effectively.

HOW IS IT TREATED?

Mostly commonly it involves treating the dehydration, increasing fluid intakes, certain postural exercises which prevent the fall in blood pressure.
It also depends on the cause which needs to be identified and corrected accordingly.
